WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)
|
The women of Faith actively work on various projects, living out our Faith to help others inside and outside of our congregation.
Outside, we support the work of First Step, a shelter for abused women serving Wayne County with various gifts. We also have donated handmade quilts to the organization. In addition, our WELCA group has spearheaded many drives to provide items, such as health and education supplies, to be distributed throughout the nation and the world.
The women of Faith are active in the work of the WELCA group of Southeast Michigan, attending conferences and conventions, as well as participating in its annual banquet to honor women at work in the church. Each fall, we collect school supplies as part of that larger effort. Faith has hosted events for the Southeast Michigan WELCA.

Our WELCA group sponsors three annual events. In April they celebrate spring with an evening program featuring various topics and desserts. Every August, we sponsor a Rummage & Bake Sale with the proceeds going to fund many of our projects alongwith specific goals of the congregation. Each December, Advent by Candlelight offers an opportunity to spend some quiet time remembering the true meaning of Christmas, featuring music and deviotions.
All during April, Faith's mission collected donations that were turned into gift cards taken to the First Step shelter for abused women & children located in the area. These gift cards will be used for groceries, personal items, and basic clothing that is needed for the residents of this shelter.
The Annual Rummage & Bake Sale for 2010 will be held August 13 & 14. We are now accepting donations. This will continue up to the time of the sale. All donations can be dropped off in the Youth Room. Please contact the church office if you would like to make a delivery during the week.
All women are welcome to join us in sharing their gifts for others. Please contact Julia Machnak or Virginia Smith for more information.

Quilters ~ "The Piece Makers"
The Piece Makers have been involved in making quilts for various groups since its inception in 2000. We have made quilts for First Step, a shelter of abused women and children, and Lutheran World Relief. Every year we also makes quilts to present to our congregation's high school graduates which are given to them during a service in June. The graduates can take the quilts with them off to college and carry with them a piece of their Faith family.
At present we are involved in making quilts for service personnel injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. So far, we have made 36 of these "Comfort Quilts." These quilts are sent directly to a medical site in the war zone.
Anyone interested in being of service is welcome to join. Minimal sewing skills are required. We meet every Wednesday from 9:30am-2:30am in the Choir Room. Bring a lunch if can stay through the noon hour. We meet all year long as long as someone can come. Contact the church office with any questions.
Prayer Ministry
Prayer is vital to the life of every Christian and church. Our Prayer Ministry tries to share this with others. Like every congregation, Faith includes many in its Sunday prayers - members, members' families and also friends. We send notes to everyone included in our prayers so that they know that we are thinking of them and offering up prayers on their behalf. Anyone can be involved in this caring service to others. In addition to adding those in need to our own individual prayers, you can help by taking a turn to write notes to those added to our list of prayer concerns. Please contact Julia Machnak or the church office if you would like further information.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Our Prayer Shawl Ministry has been going strong for over 4 years. Whether they are knitted or crocheted, in the traditional triangle shape or in the form of a lap robe, for little ones or the elderly, whatever color of the rainbow is chosen, we have many members and friends of Faith joining in this special ministry. The shawls are given to not only those in need physically due to illness, but those who may have other issues that they are working on. We also provide shawls for caregivers who also need some TLC as they help others. We have shawl patterns available for both the knitter and the crocheter, but feel free to use one of your own. Contact Beth in the church office for further details.
Parish Life
Our Parish Life commitee consists of a group of individuals who take on the responsibility of organizing many events at Faith, especially 'food-related' events! They have sponsored our Lent and Advent Tuesday meals, a chili cook-off, summer barbeques, movie nights, retirement parties, banquets, and special Coffee Hours for graduates and confirmands. They also make sure that Faith's pantry is freshly stocked with paper supplies for our many gatherings. If you would like more information about how to participate with this fun group of members, please contact the church office.
